This carving and seat were inspired by the symbols and images from the myth of the world tree in various cultures, but mostly drawing from Norse mythology. Yggdrasil, the world tree, is a powerful and essential image in Norse mythology, when yggdrasil falls the world will end. In the roots of the tree dwells the serpent, up and down the trunk runs the squirrel, the deer browse on its leaves and the eagle rests in its crown. The main part of the chair is carved from ash, the eagle at the top is carved from elm, the squirrel from yew, and the snakes at the bottom from plum.
This was a private commission.
